Balanced diet:
Maintaining a balanced diet is very important in keeping a healthy body. Individuals suffering from gout should maintain a fast for one week, surviving on orange juice and water for that whole week. During this period they should be given orange juice diluted in water 2-3 times a day.
Once this period is over, they should slowly start adding other fruits like apples and bananas. Once the individual starts showing improvement, they should start a proper, organic, nutritional and balanced diet rich in green leafy and other vegetables (raw or steamed), fruits, whole wheat grains, brown bread and pasta, pulses (beans, lentils and the like), very little meat weekly (less than ¼ pound). However, junk foods, friend, fatty, spicy and protein-rich foods should be strictly avoided.
Vegetables:
Green leafy vegetables are highly recommended to the patients suffering from gout. Carrot, beet, cucumber, beans (French beans) are some of the useful vegetables for the treatment of gout. Patient should be given vegetable juice like carrot, beet, or French beans juice. One can mix all these vegetables and prepare a mixed-vegetable juice, which also is very effective for treating gout.
Garlic:
Garlic is one of the oldest home remedy used for the treatment of various chronic diseases. It is said that patient suffering from gout should at least eat 3-4 raw cloves of garlic daily. Easy to eat when sliced and added to fresh, live, plain yoghurt with grated apple to sweeten.
Fruits:
Most common fruits useful for the treatment of gout include apples, banana and grapes. Individuals suffering from gout should at least eat 2-3 apples daily. Grapes are very good as they help to clear the body of toxic acids also present with uric acid.
Banana:
Banana is also a very useful fruit. Patient should take 5-6 bananas daily. In fact it is said that if an individual can survive on this banana and apple diet for at least for 2-4 days after the fast, they will see tremendous positive effect in treating this disease.
Honey:
Honey is also an effective remedy for the treatment of gout. Add a teaspoon to a glass of warm water or herbal tea (may be taken with Mercy Oil dosage). Stir well and take this 3-4 times a day.
Cherries:
Cherries are also considered to play an important role in treating gout. Person suffering from gout should consume 10-20 cherries daily. This has a very positive effect in treating gout.
Causes of Gout:
When the kidneys are unable to pass uric acid off to bladder; levels of uric acid increase within the body. It starts accumulating in the blood in different parts of body like joints and knees.
This excess amount of uric acid forms tiny thin crystals wherever it accumulates and subsequently causes damage to the surrounding tissue.
These excess levels of uric acid can be due to the excess intake of alcohol, unhealthy eating habits, especially junk food, fried, spicy, fatty and high protein-rich foods.
Symptoms of Gout:
The main symptoms of gout include severe pain in joints, knees and toes. Gout generally attacks patient late at night or early in the morning. Individuals may experience swollen and hot joints and toes.
The pain may persist for 7-10 days. Individuals may also suffer from fever and pain in other areas of the body. Other symptoms of gout include loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, and kidney stones. In acute cases, kidneys sometimes completely fails to function. |
